Trump deploys National Guard to US capital.

The US President announced that he is federalizing the Washington, D.C. police force and deploying the National Guard to the nation’s capital as part of an effort to fight crime.

Donald Trump spoke at a news conference on Monday about plans he said would fundamentally stop violent crime in Washington, D.C.

“We are here for a very serious purpose,” Trump said. “Something is out of control. But we will get it under control very quickly, just like we did at the southern border.”

“I am taking historic action to save our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, chaos, and misery,” the president said. “And what’s worse, this is Freedom Day in Washington, D.C., and we are going to take back our capital.”

He said he was declaring a public safety emergency, placing the Washington Police Department under federal control, and deploying the National Guard.
