According to the New York Post, the American president is optimistic about reaching a peace agreement during his upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.

Trump believes that Russia and Ukraine are interested in ending this conflict and said: I think the Ukrainians want to do it, and I think Russia wants it too. But every time one wants it, the other side doesn’t.

Zelensky, on December 24, 2025, unveiled his 20-point plan for peace with Russia. In this plan, he still insisted on not retreating from Donbas and the right to have an 800,000-strong army.

Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, announced that Zelensky’s plan fundamentally differs from the 27-point plan that Russia has been discussing with the American side in its contacts since early December and in recent weeks.
