Trump envoy seeks control of 7 ministries in Iraq’s next government.
Abdul Sattar Mohammed al-Dulaimi, a member of the Iraqi Determination Coalition, said in an interview with Al-Ma’ulooma News Agency: “Mark Sawaya, US President Trump’s special envoy to Iraq, announced to the country’s high-ranking political officials that the future Iraqi government should not interfere in the selection of senior officials and ministers of seven sovereign ministries.
He added: “The US special envoy to Iraq has emphasized that the selection of the president, prime minister and speaker of parliament, as well as the ministries of interior, defense, finance, oil and the central bank, must be based on the US approach, and the elected cabinet should not interfere in the case of these positions because these positions are highly sensitive.
Al-Dulaimi noted: Washington has welcomed cooperation with Sunni and Shiite figures and from different factions within the framework of forming an Iraqi government approved by the US, and senior Iraqi officials have been threatened that if they do not adhere to the US approach, their corruption cases will be exposed and their assets will be confiscated abroad.
The Iraqi official said: Sawaya is implementing Trump’s plan in Iraq, which aims to completely dominate the country’s political decisions.
Previously, “Jumah al-Atwani”, head of the Iraqi “Horizon” Center for Strategic Studies, said: Washington will undoubtedly enter the game, as in the past, through its special envoys during the period of forming coalitions to form a new Iraqi government, and will try to draw up political coalitions and the future Iraqi government in accordance with American policies.
He said: Shiite political movements have learned this repetitive game of the Americans and have prepared scenarios for it that will probably involve sacrificing several small political movements close to the resistance, to convince America, bypass it, and form the government again.
