Trump: Hopes for a deal with Iran have diminished!
According to the New York Post, US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly reiterated his claim that Tehran’s enrichment program must be dismantled as one of the conditions of the nuclear deal and has been met with a firm response from the Islamic Republic of Iran, has said that he is gradually losing hope that Tehran will agree to end uranium enrichment.
In response to the question whether he thinks he can “force Iran to shut down its nuclear program?” Trump said: “I don’t know. I used to think so, but I’m losing more and more confidence in that.”
He claimed: “It seems like they’re stalling, and I think it’s unfortunate, but I’m less confident now than I was a few months ago. Something has happened to them, but my confidence in reaching an agreement has decreased.”
In response to the question, “What will happen?”, the US President repeated his threats against Tehran, claiming: “If they don’t make a deal, they won’t get nuclear weapons. If they do, they won’t get nuclear weapons. But it would be better if it happened without war and killing. However, I don’t think I see the same level of enthusiasm for a deal from them. I think they will make mistakes, but we’ll see what happens. Time will tell.”
Asked whether he thought Beijing would influence Tehran’s decision to resist US demands, Trump said he didn’t think that was the case, adding: “I just think they might not want a deal. They might. There’s no certainty.”
Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has emphasized, referring to Iran’s clear and explicit red lines, that “the issue of uranium enrichment is a scientific achievement for us, achieved by our scientists, and we cannot ignore this issue.”
