Trump: I am putting pressure on Putin.
According to CNN, since the beginning of his second term as president, US President Donald Trump has emphasized the need to end the war in Ukraine, an issue that is now at the center of US foreign policy.
Accordingly, Trump, in response to a reporter’s question about the possibility of Russia opposing a ceasefire in Ukraine, said: I have leverage with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but I don’t want to talk about those options right now.
He added: Putin’s recent statements about the war have been positive and this shows Russia’s willingness to reduce the level of tensions. I believe a ceasefire agreement can turn into a lasting peace between the parties to the conflict.
Trump: Greenland’s annexation to the US will happen
Donald Trump announced today in the Oval Office of the White House that he believes Greenland will be annexed to the US.
In response to a reporter’s question about his vision for the annexation of this territory, he said: I think it will happen. We need it for international security.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who was in the room with Trump for a meeting, did not respond directly to Trump’s remarks, saying he did not want to bring NATO into the issue. However, he noted the importance of security in the Arctic region, saying: “We know that the situation there is changing, and we need to be there.”
Greenland, the world’s largest island, is an autonomous territory under Danish rule. The region is of interest to many countries due to its strategic location in the Arctic and its abundant natural resources. Trump had previously floated the idea of buying Greenland in 2019, but the proposal was met with a negative response from Denmark.
Trump’s recent statements show that he continues to seek to increase American influence in strategic regions of the world. However, annexing Greenland to the United States would be a major challenge due to legal and political issues.
