PNN – In a statement, Donald Trump emphasized that he will oppose any attempt to replace the dollar: I threatened the BRICS member countries, if they seek to remove the dollar, I will impose a 150% tariff on their imported goods.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Sputnik news agency, Trump said during his speech at the Republican Governors Association in Washington: As you know, BRICS member countries were trying to destroy our dollar.
The US president went on to point out that the BRICS members were planning to replace the US dollar with a new currency and said: They probably wanted to use the Chinese yuan instead of the dollar.
Trump added: Therefore, to prevent this from happening, upon entering the White House, I announced that I will impose a 150% tariff on the goods of any country that seeks to replace the US dollar.
He went on to say that he does not know what has happened to the BRICS members, and claimed: There has been no news about the BRICS member countries for some time.
Trump has placed tariffs on the goods of countries that have a trade surplus with the United States on his economic agenda. He has imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican goods, but Trump suspended the implementation of these tariffs for a month after the two countries promised to deal with the influx of immigrants and fentanyl drug trafficking.
The President of the United States also threatened the BRICS group with 100% tariffs earlier (February 14) and said that officials from the United States, Russia and Ukraine will meet and discuss with each other in Munich.
Without giving any explanation, he claimed that “BRICS is dead” since the day he threatened BRICS with a 100% tariff.
Trump claimed: They will come back and say we beg you not to do this.
The BRICS group was established in Yekaterinburg, Russia in 2009 with the participation of Brazil, Russia, India and China; a year later, South Africa joined this group. Then the Islamic Republic of Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the UAE also joined this group from the beginning of 2024.
In 2024, Russia is chairing the BRICS group for a one-year term, and in this framework, it has planned to hold more than 250 events during one year, of which about 200 events have been held with the participation of member countries in the fields of politics and security, economic and financial, cultural and humanitarian communication.
