Trump in Tokyo; Washington’s message to China?

The trip comes amid regional trade and security tensions, and Trump’s meetings and plans could be a “political and economic message” to regional rivals, especially China, without explicitly taking an official stance.

NHK news network broadcast images of Donald Trump’s arrival at the airport and reported: The US president arrived at Haneda Airport. The Japanese news network added: This is Trump’s first visit to Japan in his second term as president after 2019.

After this meeting, he will meet with the country’s newly appointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday (tomorrow), and on the same day, he will visit the Yokosuka base south of Tokyo.

According to IRNA, Trump arrived in Malaysia yesterday, the first leg of his five-day trip to East Asia, and attended the signing ceremony of the peace agreement known as the “Kuala Lumpur Peace” between Thailand and Cambodia, which was held on the sidelines of the 47th meeting of the “Association of Southeast Asian Nations” (ASEAN).

Trump’s 3-day visit to Japan will be from October 27-29, 2025, after which he will leave for South Korea to attend the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Organization.
