Trump on Ukraine war: The ball is now in Russia’s court.
According to Al Jazeera, US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday: “We have received positive messages about the ceasefire in Ukraine. Now the ball is in Russia’s court and we have sent representatives to Moscow and we hope to achieve a ceasefire. We hope to get an agreement from Russia to achieve a ceasefire. If we do that, I think 80 percent of the way to this terrible bloodbath will be over.”
The US President continued: “We have a big deficit with Ireland, which has been very smart. Ireland has been smart and has been cracking down on American pharmaceutical companies and other companies. … The European Union has treated us badly for years and has been very tough and now it’s our turn. The European Union has not treated us fairly and has sued our companies. We will put tariffs on the European Union at the same rate that they put on us.”
Donald Trump added, “I have not spoken to the Russian president yet. I hope there is no need to put pressure on Russia on the Ukraine issue.” We await Russia’s agreement to the proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, and we hope that this will be achieved without putting pressure on Moscow.
