Trump: Pardoning Biden’s son is an abuse of power and a miscarriage of justice.
According to The Hill, US President-elect Donald Trump, in response to current US President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son, declared that it was an “abuse (of power) and a miscarriage of justice.”
He posted a message on social media: “Does Joe’s pardon of Hunter include the January 6 hostages who have now been in prison for years? Abuse and miscarriage of justice!”
Trump was referring to his supporters who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in protest of the election of “Joe Biden” in the US presidential election, during which US police killed several people and arrested some.
Joe Biden, who is spending his last days in the White House and is due to officially hand over the reins of power to Donald Trump on January 20, issued a statement announcing that he had pardoned his son Hunter, who had previously become the focus of Republican attacks on him.
The statement said: “Today I pardoned my son Hunter. Since taking office, I have made it clear that I will not interfere in the affairs of the Department of Justice, even when I have witnessed false accusations against my son Hunter.”
The statement added: “Any reasonable person who looks at Hunter’s case will understand that he is being targeted simply because he is my son. We hope the American people understand why a father who is also the president would decide to pardon his son.”
Hunter Biden faces a wide range of charges, from corruption and bribery in Ukraine to illegal weapons and drug trafficking, which could see him sentenced to between five and 25 years in prison.
