Trump repeats Biden’s mistake, says CNN.

By David Goldman and Matt Egan, the current US President, Donald Trump, is falling into the same political trap that plagued his predecessors by denying the reality of inflation in the US.

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Trump declared that “we don’t have inflation” and that “grocery prices have come down,” while official data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that food prices have risen 1.4% since he returned to power.

Although inflation is no longer at the crisis levels of the Joe Biden era, it is rising again, partly due to the Trump administration’s new trade tariffs.

A new CNN poll shows that 72% of Americans assess the country’s economic situation as weak, and almost half of respondents consider “the cost of living” to be the country’s most important issue.

During Biden’s tenure, when inflation hit a four-decade high, he also tried to paint a positive picture of the economy by relying on macro indicators such as gross domestic product growth. But as the 2024 election experience showed, ignoring everyday pressures from gas prices to food has cost the Democratic Party dearly.

Trump, who was critical of this approach at the time, is now repeating the same mistake. He not only refuses to acknowledge the reality of inflation but also blames the previous administration entirely for it. Yet, according to a CNN poll, 61 percent of Americans believe Trump’s economic policies are responsible for the current situation.
