Trump: Suspect in Charlie Kirk murder is in custody.
President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Friday that he believes the suspect in the shooting death of Charlie Kirk is in custody with “a high degree of certainty.”
“I think we’ve got him,” the president said, two days after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative politician.
The suspect, Trump said, is “28 or 29.” The president said he hopes the suspect will receive the “death sentence” in court.
Trump added: “That could change, but based on the information we have, the person we have in custody is the person we were looking for.”
The Utah Department of Public Safety has also released new images of the main suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. Trump also said that he was informed of the arrest of the person just five minutes before the interview began.
The US president added: “Actually, someone close to him tipped him off.”
Trump added: “In Utah, we have the death penalty, and you have an excellent governor there; the governor is very determined to carry out the death penalty in this case.”
Utah Governor Spencer Cox also announced that Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man, has been arrested on charges of assassinating Charlie Kirk, an American conservative activist. “The suspect had previously expressed his opposition to Kirk’s views to his family and had confessed to a friend after the attack.”
According to the Daily Mail, Tyler Robinson was a student at the University of Utah but only attended classes for one semester in 2021.
