We agreed to an immediate ceasefire on energy and infrastructure, with the understanding that we will work quickly towards a complete ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to this very terrible war between Russia and Ukraine.
The US President once again claimed that if I were president, this war would never have started, adding: Many issues related to the peace agreement were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed and that both Putin and Zelensky (Ukrainian President) want the war to end.
Trump also said: This process is now fully underway and we hope, for the sake of humanity, that it will work!
Earlier, the White House announced that US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin discussed the end of the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and Iran in a phone call.
The White House said in a statement: The two leaders agreed that the conflict must end with a lasting peace and stressed the need to improve bilateral relations between the United States and Russia, saying that the blood and money that both Ukraine and Russia have paid in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people.
The White House statement reads: The leaders spoke extensively about the Middle East as a region for cooperation to prevent future conflicts. They also discussed the need to halt the proliferation of strategic weapons. The two leaders agreed that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel.
The White House said: The leaders of the two countries agreed that the future holds many positive aspects with improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia. This includes major economic deals and geopolitical stability after peace is established.
This is the first phone call between Trump and Putin since peace talks between US and Ukrainian officials a week ago in Saudi Arabia, in which Kiev agreed to an immediate temporary cessation of hostilities, provided that Russia does the same.
The conversation lasted 2.5 hours, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Russian state media outlet TASS.
