Trump’s threat against Canada: You will pay a price that will be written in the history books

PNN – US President Donald Trump on Tuesday escalated his threats against the country’s northern neighbor, vowing to impose a financial cost that will be written in the history books for years to come, while Canada responded to Trump’s tariff actions by threatening to cut off power to states that rely on Canadian electricity.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Trump raised the question in a message on the social media platform called Truth Social: Why is the US allowing Canada to supply electricity to some states in the first place, saying Canada would pay a “high price” for using electricity as a bargaining chip?

Trump wrote: Why would our country allow another country to provide electricity to even a small area? Who made these decisions and why? And can you imagine Canada stooping so low that they would use electricity and the lives of innocent people as a bargaining chip and a threat? They will pay so much for this that it will be written in the history books for years to come!

This comes after Trump previously said he would respond to a 25% increase in Canadian electricity for New York, Minnesota, and Michigan with a 25% tariff on Canadian electricity and threatened to impose additional tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.

Trump continued to taunt Canada about becoming the 51st state if Canadians wanted to see tariffs disappear, presenting it as an opportunity for tax cuts and stronger military and border security.

Trump said Canada pays very little for national security and relies on the United States for military protection. We subsidize Canada by over $200 billion a year. Why??? This cannot continue. The only logical thing is for Canada to become our 51st state. That would completely solve all the tariffs and every other issue.

Earlier, the US President also announced on Tuesday that tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada would increase to 50% starting Wednesday (up from 25% today) and that Canada must immediately eliminate its tariffs on American goods.

Trump stated: In response to Canada’s imposition of a 25% tariff on electricity imported into the United States, I have directed the Secretary of Commerce to impose an additional 25% tariff on Canada and to increase the tariff on steel and aluminum imports from Canada to the United States to 50%.

The US President said he would soon declare a national emergency in the affected areas in response to the power issue, which would “allow the United States to take swift action to address this outrageous threat from Canada.”
