Trump’s vice president: Elon Musk made a big mistake by attacking the US president.
The vice president tried to downplay Musk’s vehement attacks as a “feeling man” who is frustrated in an interview on Saturday, following a public spat between the world’s richest and most powerful man.
“I hope that eventually Elon will come back to us,” Vance said. “It may not be possible now because he’s become so intense.”
Vance’s comments come as other Republicans in recent days have called on the two men, who were close allies and spent significant time together months ago, to mend their relationship.
Musk’s social media posts attacking Trump have been flooded with messages as the president has called him a “disgruntled” and “crazy” and threatened to cut off government contracts with Musk’s companies.
Musk, who runs electric car maker Tesla, internet company Starlink and rocket company SpaceX, has slammed Trump’s tax cuts and spending bill, but has also suggested that Trump should be impeached and has alleged, without evidence, that the administration is covering up information about the president’s relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
“This happens to everyone,” Vance said. “I’ve been a lot more pissed off than Elon Musk in the last 24 hours.”
While Musk has spent days on social media urging Congress to repeal Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” the president “was a little frustrated and felt some of the criticism from Elon was unfair, but I think the president has been very restrained because Trump doesn’t think he should get into a bitter feud with Elon.”
