Trump’s vice president: Ukraine will not win and that’s the reality.
According to Russia Today, US President Donald Trump’s Vice President JD Vance says that Ukraine will not win a war with Russia.
Vance, a former US Marine, has long stressed that US support for the continuation of the war in Ukraine simply diverts resources from domestic priorities and risks an unnecessary war with Russia.
Vance said: “The Ukrainians are not going to win this war, and it has to stop. I think there is this strange thinking in the mainstream media that if this war continues for just a few more years, Russia will collapse, the Ukrainians will get their territory back and the situation will return to before the war began! This is not the reality we live in.
He added: “If this war continues for a few more years, millions more people will be killed and there is a risk of escalating tensions and turning it into a nuclear war. So it has to stop.”
Vance also added that despite the challenges of engaging with the warring parties, American negotiators are making progress.
“Sometimes we get fed up with the Ukrainians, and sometimes we get fed up with the Russians,” the vice president added. “Sometimes you want to throw up your hands and give up, but Trump won’t let us.”
Vance’s comments came as Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine (May 8-11) yesterday to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of “deceiving” the public and called for an immediate 30-day ceasefire.
