Trump’s vice president: ‘Violent’ January 6th rioters should not be pardoned.

According to the Associated Press, J.D. Vance, Vice President and running mate of US President-elect Donald Trump, says that those who committed violent acts during the January 6 riots and the attack on the Capitol in 2021 to overturn the result of the 2020 US presidential election should not be pardoned.

In an interview with Fox News, Vance described the pardon issue as “very simple” and said: Those who protested peacefully should be pardoned, and if someone committed violence that day, obviously they should not be pardoned.

He went on to add, of course, that there are “ambiguities” in some cases!

Trump previously pledged to pardon the January 6 rioters on his first day in office, which begins on January 20. He recently told NBC: “I will very likely do it quickly. Those people have suffered a long and difficult time. There may be exceptions. I have to look into it.” But you know, someone could have been overreacting.

During the unrest that followed the 2020 presidential election, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent the confirmation of Joe Biden’s victory that year. In total, more than 1,500 people were charged with federal crimes, more than 100 police officers were injured, and dozens of lawmakers hid in the corners of the Capitol for fear of harm.

Vance also wrote in a message on the social network “X” in response to criticism from supporters of the congressional rebels: “I have defended these people for years. The president says he will look at every case and I will do the same, and that is not “talking nonsense.” I assure you that we care about people who are unjustly imprisoned.
