Turkish army on full alert; is military action against Syrian Kurds imminent?
The Turkish state-run Hurriyet newspaper, citing military sources, announced that the country’s armed forces were on full alert ahead of a possible military operation against the Kurds based in northern Syria.
Hurriyet wrote in this regard: Ankara, which wants the new Syrian government (the Jolani regime) to take the necessary measures against this terrorist organization (the Syrian Kurds), continues to be prepared to face any scenario, and the forces present at the border are on alert and are waiting for a possible military operation.
The newspaper’s military sources also emphasized that Ankara is preparing to face any scenario, and one of these scenarios is military action.
The newspaper also announced on Wednesday that if the West makes new demands, the Syrian and Turkish military forces will launch a large-scale military operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Turkey considers the presence of Syrian Kurdish forces in the border strip with it a threat to the country’s national security. Ankara officials believe that the Syrian Kurdish forces are allies of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Tuesday about the situation in Syria: If Ankara’s demands in Syria are not heeded, there is a risk that Turkey will launch a military operation against the Syrian Kurdish forces, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces.
