Turkish Newspaper: Jolani’s “tie” won’t wipe the blood off his hands.
After Muhammad al-Julani, the leader of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, traveled to Turkey and met with the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Cumhuriyet newspaper published a harsh statement from Syrian Alawites regarding the meeting.
The joint statement of the Syrian Alawites states: Welcoming the leader of an international criminal group as the head of a state is ignoring the people of the Middle East and the Alawites as well. During the 22-year rule of the Justice and Development Party (Turkey’s ruling party), we have always faced many anti-democratic behaviors and patterns. But these conditions are beyond them.
In another part of the statement, we read: Golani, whom many countries in the world, including Turkey, consider a terrorist, is a murderer and a terrorist. He must be tried and an official meeting with him is tantamount to exonerating him from the crimes he has committed. The ties he wears cannot wipe the blood on his hands. He is the murderer of tens of thousands of Yazidis, Kurds, Christians and Alawites in Syria. Golani is responsible for the killing of the Syrian people and the displacement of millions.
Golani left for Turkey on his second official foreign trip since taking power in Syria. After meeting with Golani in Ankara, Erdogan claimed in a speech: “A new chapter has begun not only in Syria but in the entire region. The coming period will see an increase in meetings with the Syrian side!”
