Reuters news agency reported, citing a court document, that Imam oglu denied all charges.
Imam oglu, who is considered Erdogan’s main political rival in the upcoming elections, was arrested on March 19 on charges including corruption and aiding a terrorist group.
The Republican People’s Party of Türkiye condemned Imam oglu’s arrest, declaring it a political move.
Following Imam oglu’s arrest, the streets of Türkiye witnessed protest unrest, with protests starting in universities, Istanbul’s municipal headquarters and other locations and spreading across Türkiye.
While the government considers the opposition protests to be a show and a way to divert attention from domestic problems, the leader of the opposition party called on his supporters to continue the protests and accused Erdogan of being afraid of public unrest.
The protests have continued despite government efforts to suppress them, and protesters have declared that they will not rest as long as Imam oglu is in custody.
