Türkiye and the US discuss their role in the future of Syria.

According to Al Jazeera, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced in a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Ankara that he had discussed and consulted with the US Secretary of State about the role of Washington and Ankara in the future of Syria.

Stating that “I spoke with Blinken about the situation in Syria and Gaza,” he added, “There is broad agreement on what we would like to see in Syria.”

According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, “Our priority is to ensure stability in Syria and prevent ISIS and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from taking control.”

Anthony Blinken also said: “I spoke with my Turkish counterpart about the need to continue efforts to keep ISIS under control.”

Regarding the future Syrian government, he said: “We need a government that strengthens stability, eliminates chemical weapons and does not pose any threat to Syria’s neighbors.”

The US Secretary of State also added: “We talked about the importance of continuing the relentless efforts to eliminate ISIS; We discussed the need for Hamas to accept a ceasefire agreement in Gaza to end what is happening.
