Türkiye: We may take action against Syrian Kurds.
According to Anadolu, Turkey considers the presence of Syrian Kurdish forces in its border strip a threat to the country’s national security. Ankara officials believe that the Syrian Kurdish forces are allies of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Accordingly, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said about the situation in Syria: If Ankara’s demands in Syria are not heeded, there is a risk that Turkey will launch a military operation against the Syrian Kurdish forces known as the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Fidan continued: We demand that a new constitution be written in Syria and that millions of refugees return to this country. We will not hesitate to carry out military operations against terrorist organizations because they pose a threat to Syria, Iraq, and Turkey.
Referring to US support for the Syrian Democratic Forces, he emphasized: that Washington used to be present in northern Syria and support the Kurdish forces for various reasons, including confronting the ISIS terrorist group. Now, many of these reasons no longer exist.
The Turkish Foreign Minister claimed that the US is now supporting a terrorist organization (the Syrian Democratic Forces) and stressed that it is doing this to prevent the re-emergence of ISIS.
It is worth noting that Turkey has good relations with the Tahrir al-Sham and other elements that overthrew the government of Bashar al-Assad. Ankara is now seeking to disarm the Syrian Democratic Forces and remove them from its borders.
