Türkiye’s proposed ceasefire plan for Gaza/Call for Gaza disarmament.
The Yedioth Aharonot newspaper reported that a few days after the announcement of the cabinet’s decision to completely occupy Gaza and the Israeli Prime Minister’s implicit emphasis in this regard that Tel Aviv had no intention of reaching a partial and phased agreement and was seeking to achieve a comprehensive and complete agreement, we witnessed the presence of a Hamas delegation in Egypt, which was there to examine a new proposal to reach a comprehensive agreement.
Another part of the report states that, according to the new proposal prepared by Turkey, Hamas will be asked to agree to a new plan for the Israeli army’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the area will be under Arab-American supervision until a permanent solution for disarmament and a governing structure is reached.
However, the proposal also includes an Israeli demand that Hamas has repeatedly rejected. According to this clause, Hamas must suspend its military wing and hand over its weapons, and in return, the mediators – to which Turkey has also been added – will guarantee the implementation of all other clauses of the agreement until a permanent ceasefire agreement is drafted and signed.
The Israeli TV channel 12 has another version of this proposal, announcing on its website that Egypt has proposed the complete disarmament of Hamas based on the clause requested by Israel, and in its proposal, they have called for a “suspension” of the use of weapons in Hamas’ possession.
Channel 12 further emphasizes that it is still unclear exactly what is meant by the suspension of weapons in possession, but Abu Mazen recently proposed that weapons in Gaza be placed in warehouses under the supervision of the PA forces. However, it is possible that the drafters of this clause meant a different measure by the suspension of weapons, although this is the first time that Egypt has made such a proposal.
