PNN – In the heat of the shortage of forces in Ukraine and Russia’s significant advances in the eastern fronts of this country, the Ukrainian parliament announced the first steps to call women to the army.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Newsweek magazine, Dmytro Rasumkov, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, announced the presentation of a bill for the mobilization of women in the war with Russia.
This publication stated that this action of the Ukrainian parliament is taking place at the same time as there is a shortage of forces in the midst of Russia’s impressive and record-breaking advances on the eastern fronts.
According to the reports, according to the bill that is under consideration in the Ukrainian parliament, women of suitable age are allowed to serve in the military as conscripts.
Although it is said that this bill also has opponents; including the main scientific and expert department of “Verkhovna Rada” (unicameral parliament of Ukraine), which has declared that registering women for military service before their training is an inappropriate action.
According to the current law of Ukraine, men over the age of 25 are allowed to serve in the military, and women can join it voluntarily.

Mariana Bezoglaya, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, in a post on Telegram, while agreeing to this plan, called for a change to start women’s military service and wrote: “There are no two types of citizens in the Constitution. We currently have illegal discrimination against men.”
He further added: The start of women’s military service for positions such as employees, officers and security units is valuable, and it allows men to go to the front line and join combat brigades.
The parliamentarian noted: The Ministry of Defense has failed in the policy of mobilization; the generals are literally destroying the soldiers with ill-considered decisions.
Newsweek has noted that following the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 2014, Ukrainian women have voluntarily participated in wars.
In fact, after 2014, 50,000 women joined the armed forces of Ukraine, of which 16,500 entered the army. According to the announcement of the Ukrainian government, from then until January 2024, women will comprise 7.3% of the armed forces of Ukraine, with 62,000 women in the armed forces and more than 45,000 in military positions.
The American newspaper New York Times recently announced in a report that since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, the number of women serving in the armed forces of Ukraine has increased by 30 percent.
Newsweek has noted that this is not the first time that the idea of Ukrainian women being conscripted in the war has been raised. In the same context, General Valery Zalogeny, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK and the former commander of the country’s armed forces, announced that Ukraine can start calling women into the army to “save Europe from war”.
On the other hand, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine and an opponent of women’s forced joining the war fronts, has said that he will not sign this bill, but will lower the conscription age for men.
