Ukraine developments | Will the Putin-Trump meeting be a new hope for an end to the conflict?
On Thursday evening, a telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump. The call was initiated by the Russian side and lasted more than two hours. After the call, the US president announced that the two sides had reached an agreement to meet again in Hungary.
After the conversation, Trump wrote on his page on the social network Truth Social that his conversation with Putin had been constructive. The content of the conversation was determined by the message of the head of the White House, as well as by the statements of Yuri Ushakov, an assistant to the Russian president, who also described the call as “substantial.”
According to the Kremlin official, during the call, Putin congratulated his American counterpart on the success in resolving the Middle East crisis. In response, Trump emphasized that this success could also help determine the Ukrainian crisis. The leaders of the two countries devoted a significant part of their conversation to reviewing trade relations between Moscow and Washington after the end of the Ukrainian crisis. The US President stressed that the end of the conflict will create great opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation between Russia and the United States.
A meeting between the top advisers of the two presidents is scheduled to take place next week, with the US delegation headed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This will be followed by a personal meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The proposal to hold the meeting in Budapest was made by the US President, and the Russian President immediately agreed.
