Ukraine peace: Zelensky’s Florida mission.
In a last-ditch effort to resolve the Ukraine conflict in 2025, he will meet with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, today (Sunday) in a bid to broker new agreements.
The Associated Press reported that the two sides will meet at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and private club in Palm Beach, Florida, where the US president is vacationing.
Zelensky had previously said the two sides would discuss security and economic agreements, and that he would raise “territorial issues” during the meeting.
He also said in a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that the Russian president is a man of war and not seeking peace, referring to Moscow’s recent attacks on Kiev’s positions.
Zelensky said on the plane to Florida that he would seek a sign during talks with Trump that he would receive legally binding security guarantees in exchange for any peace agreement.
The Ukrainian president also reiterated calls to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, adding that his country needs more missiles to repel Russia’s relentless attacks.
