UN: More than 60 international companies are involved in the genocide in Gaza.
Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, has accused more than 60 international companies of complicity in Israeli crimes in Gaza and supporting settlement construction in the West Bank in a new report. She describes the actions as part of a “genocidal campaign” in the 27-page report.
The report is based on more than 200 documents and information from governments, human rights defenders, companies, and academics.
“While life in Gaza is being destroyed and the West Bank is under increasing attack, this report shows why genocide continues: because it is profitable for many,” Albanese said, accusing international companies of having “financial ties” to Israel’s apartheid system and militarization.
Companies accused in the field of weapons and machinery
The published list includes the names of major companies, including Lockheed Martin and Leonardo, whose weapons, according to the report, have been used in attacks on Gaza.
In the machinery sector, Caterpillar Inc. and HD Hyundai were also named for supplying equipment used in the destruction of Palestinian property in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Technology companies serving Israel
The Albanese report also emphasizes that large global technology companies play a central role in Israel’s surveillance system and the ongoing destruction of Gaza. Among them are the following companies:
Alphabet (Google’s parent company)
Amazon
Microsoft
IBM
Palantir Technologies
According to the UN rapporteur, these companies have played a role in the continuation of the occupation and attacks against Palestinians by providing cloud computing services, artificial intelligence tools and surveillance systems.
Call for legal accountability
In the report, Albanese called for the aforementioned companies to stop cooperating with Israel and for their executives to be prosecuted for possible violations of international law. He announced that only 15 companies responded to his office, but these responses have not been published.
The report is scheduled to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday. Israel and the United States have already withdrawn from the council, citing “bias against Israel.”
In response to this report, the US government has called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to dismiss Albanese and condemn his report.
