UN: Situation in war-torn city of Fasher is catastrophic

PNN – The UN-affiliated mission described the situation in the war-torn city of El Fasher in Sudan as catastrophic.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Sputnik, the UN-affiliated mission, during its first visit to the war-torn city of El Fasher in North Darfur, Sudan, reported a catastrophic humanitarian situation in the region.

The mission’s report states that civilians remaining in the city are living in unsafe and inhumane conditions.

Control of the city fell to the Rapid Support Forces last October after a 500-day siege, and many crimes were committed against its residents.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan emphasized that the city has turned into a scene of crime. Sudanese in El Fasher are living under plastic shelters without water and sanitation services.

In April 2023, widespread and violent clashes began between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in various regions of the country.
