Unannounced visit of Pakistan army chief to Saudi Arabia

PNN – The commander of the Pakistani army entered Saudi Arabia on an unannounced visit and met with the crown prince of this country.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Pakistani media, citing Saudi sources, announced that General Syed Asim Munir met with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, in Riyadh.

The Saudi news agency also reported a few hours ago that the commander of the Pakistani army arrived in Riyadh on an official visit and met with Mohammed bin Salman.

More details about the objectives of General Asim Munir’s unannounced trip to Saudi Arabia have not been released. Considering Pakistan’s history of receiving financial aid from Saudi Arabia, as well as Riyadh’s multi-billion dollar deposits in the Central Bank of Pakistan to help improve the country’s foreign exchange reserves, it is expected that Pakistan will once again look to Saudi financial aid.

In a phone call, the Saudi Crown Prince congratulated Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan and announced Riyadh’s readiness to develop relations with Islamabad.

After the Saudi Crown Prince’s phone call with the Pakistani Prime Minister, diplomatic sources in Islamabad announced that bin Salman will make an official visit to Pakistan after the month of Ramadan.

Bin Salman’s last official visit to Pakistan as the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia took place at the end of February 2017.
