United Nations: Repression of students in American universities is worrying

PNN – The United Nations special rapporteur on cultural rights said that the attack on protesting students in American universities and their repression shows the increasing of worrying restrictions on freedom.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoted by Sama news agency, Farideh Shahid added: “We are concerned about the disproportionate behavior of the demonstrators.”

He added: Violent suppression of peaceful student demonstrations and police brutality and arresting students are very worrying.

Seven months have passed since the beginning of the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and the unprecedented killing of Palestinians by the forces of the Zionist regime. During this period, along with all the expressions of concern, condemnation, support for Palestine and protests in different countries of the world against the Zionist regime’s genocide in Gaza, the scope of these protests has been extended to the universities of the world.

Universities in America, Canada, Holland, Switzerland, England and other countries have become the scene of anti-Israel demonstrations.

Protesting students are demanding various demands, including the termination of cooperation with companies and universities of the Zionist regime.

Pro-Palestinian protests continue on campuses across the United States, and increasingly in Europe, following a movement at Columbia University.

Since April 18, more than 2,600 people have been arrested at 50 universities around the world. This statistic is based on the report of the Associated Press and the statements of universities and law enforcement organizations.
