United Nations requests for 4.2 million dollars to support Ukrainian refugees.
The United Nations has requested $4.2 million in funding to support Ukrainian civilians and war-torn refugees.
The United Nations and its partners on Monday requested $4.2 million from its financial partners to support communities devastated by the war in Ukraine, as well as refugees in the country in 2024.
According to “Reuters” Martin Griffiths, the head of humanitarian aid affairs of the United Nations, said: “Hundreds of thousands of children are terrified, injured and deprived of their basic needs in communities close to the front lines of war.”
He also stated: This fact alone should prompt us to do everything we can to deliver more humanitarian aid to Ukraine. His statements are made while according to the reports of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than 14.6 million people or 40% of the population of Ukraine need humanitarian aid from this organization this year due to the extensive attacks between this country and Russia. .
Surveys show that more than 3.3 million people affected by the war in Ukraine live in areas in the east and south of Ukraine that are close to the front lines of the war, and those who live in the territories occupied by Russia. They face significant problems in meeting their basic needs.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has stated that nearly $3.1 billion of the requested aid is to support the 8.5 million people who are expected to be in dire need of humanitarian assistance in 2024. In addition, the UN refugee agency has said it is seeking $1.1 billion in aid to support the 2.3 million Ukrainian refugees and their host communities.
According to published statistics, the war between Russia and Ukraine has forced about 6.3 million Ukrainian citizens to flee the country and become refugees since February 2022. Apart from this figure, nearly four million Ukrainian citizens are currently displaced within the country, and nearly one million of them are children.
Although the host countries continue to protect and accept Ukrainian refugees in their regions, many refugees in this country are still in dire need of assistance.
