United Nations: The level of conflict and destruction in Gaza is shocking

PNN – Stephen Dujarric, the spokesperson of the United Nations, said: The level of conflict and destruction that we are witnessing in Gaza in recent days while the cease-fire negotiations continue is truly shocking.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric added: The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has warned that Israel’s order for people to leave Gaza City will only add to the widespread suffering of Palestinian families, many of whom have been repeatedly displaced. These civilians must be protected and their essential needs met.

The UN spokesperson stated: All parties involved in this conflict must always respect international humanitarian laws. The level of conflict and destruction we are witnessing in recent days as the ceasefire talks continue is truly shocking.

Dujarric added: Mohand Hadi, the coordinator of our humanitarian aid in the occupied Palestinian territories, who was in the Gaza Strip yesterday for the third time and reported to the UN Secretary General earlier today, said that while entering and leaving Gaza through the Karam Shalom crossing, he witnessed the disruption of public order and security. He saw groups of men with sticks waiting for trucks to cross the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza. All the trucks he passed were heavily damaged, with broken windshields, mirrors, and hoods.

The UN spokesperson continued: The UN humanitarian aid coordinator also saw bags of flour from the World Food Program and UNRWA scattered on the side of the road leading out of the crossing. He also saw that the city of Khan Yunis was largely reduced to sand and destroyed, and that every building he saw was damaged in one way or another.

Meanwhile, UN Relief and Works Agency (UNHCR) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said four schools had been attacked in Gaza in the past four days. Since the war began, two-thirds of the buildings of UNRWA schools in Gaza — currently used as shelters for displaced persons — have been damaged, he said. Some have been bombed and many have been badly damaged.
