United Nations: The Middle East should seek ways for coexistence with comprehensive international support

PNN – The UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Affairs said: The Middle East region should seek ways for coexistence with the support of the international community.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, “Hans Grundberg”, the UN Secretary General’s special envoy for Yemen affairs, added on Monday in the UN Security Council: I echo the UN Secretary-General’s warning about the very real danger of regional escalation and his appeal to all parties for maximum restraint. Continuous and sustained efforts to strengthen peaceful and stable relations are necessary for the well-being of the people of the Middle East.

He clarified: We have not seen the progress of last year in establishing peace in Yemen this year. The prisoners who we hoped would be released in time to spend Eid with their loved ones are still in detention. The roads we hoped would be open are still closed. We also witnessed the tragic killing and wounding of sixteen civilians, including women and children, during the demolition of a residential house in Al Bayda province.

Grundberg added: “I am concerned about the apparent growing rift between the parties.” In the economic field, the parties involved take unilateral actions that risk further dividing the economic system. The devaluation of the currency in circulation in areas controlled by Ansarullah creates a real economic problem for the Yemeni people, but finding a solution from the disputed Central Bank of Yemen has been extremely complicated.

Spokesperson of the US State Department: We do not want to witness a wider regional war

The UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Affairs said: What Yemenis ultimately need is a nationwide ceasefire, improved living conditions, and the resumption of an inclusive political process that includes diverse voices, including women, youth, civil society, and marginalized groups.

This UN official added: The escalation of tension in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, which has entered its sixth month, has continued with the targeting of commercial and military ships by Ansarullah and the US and British attacks on military targets in Hodeidah, Hajjaj, and Sana’a. In the absence of a cease-fire in Gaza and continued attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the risk of further escalation continues.

Grandberg also said: Recent developments in Iran and Israel emphasize the urgency of this issue. The region should seek ways for coexistence with the support of the international community.

He stated: We cannot jeopardize Yemen’s chance for peace and let it become a collateral damage. The people of Yemen, including the seventeen million who depend on humanitarian aid for their survival, have suffered for a long time. Peace in Yemen has intrinsic value and I am convinced that Yemen’s peace with itself and its neighbors will have a positive effect on the dynamics of the region.
