UNRWA: Israel cutting water and electricity is an attack.
According to Sputnik, the Israeli parliament (Knesset) has finally approved a draft law that will cut off water and electricity to the agency’s offices, effective immediately.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini described the Knesset’s vote on the draft law as “shameful” and stressed that the law is a blow to the international system and part of a systematic campaign to discredit UNRWA.
Lazzarini added that the law gives Israel the authority to confiscate UN property in Jerusalem.
He continued: “This situation exacerbates the challenges facing UNRWA in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees and undermines the rules of international law governing the work of UN agencies.”
In October 2024, the Israeli Knesset finally banned UNRWA from operating in the occupied territories, claiming that some UNRWA staff had participated in the events of October 7, 2023.
On October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime, with the support of the United States, launched a genocidal war against the residents of Gaza, which lasted two years and resulted in the deaths of more than 71,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 171,000 others, most of whom were children and women.
Despite the implementation of the ceasefire on October 10 the living conditions of the Palestinians in Gaza have not improved, as the Israeli regime continues to violate the humanitarian protocol of the ceasefire agreement and prevent humanitarian aid trucks from entering Gaza.
