UNRWA: Israel destroyed 90 percent of schools in Gaza Strip during war

90 percent

PNN – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that about 90 percent of schools in the Gaza Strip were damaged or completely destroyed during the war.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, UNRWA announced in a statement that the agency’s remaining schools in the Gaza Strip have been turned into shelters, and children are now receiving education from UNRWA teams in temporary learning spaces or through virtual education.

The UNRWA report states that the Israeli occupation regime used explosives to destroy a school belonging to the agency, and this was the last of a series of six schools.

According to this report, the Israeli regime has also demolished 8 schools belonging to UNRWA since the beginning of the New Year.

The report mentions the opening of the Al-Bureij Medical Center on the 7th of this month to resume the provision of primary health services in the eastern central region of the Gaza Strip.

UNRWA previously warned that the war in the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire, is ongoing in another form through continued human suffering, the spread of disease, and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

In this regard, a report published by the University of Cambridge described the situation in Gaza as a deliberate “educational massacre” through the total and partial destruction of most schools in the Gaza Strip, adding that the education system has completely collapsed.

The report refers to the martyrdom of thousands of students, hundreds of teachers, and university professors, stating that this indicates the loss of an entire generation of educational staff, while schools have also become shelters for displaced people, making it impossible to resume the educational process under the current circumstances.

According to the report, the psychological trauma caused by the ongoing war hinders children’s ability to learn in the years to come.
