US admits to Yemen’s air defense strength; F-16s hit by missiles

PNN – The United States Air Force has admitted to the intensity of Yemeni air-defense attacks during the recent incursion by its F-16 fighter jets.

According to a report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al-Masirah, the U.S. Air Force acknowledged that former F-16 squadron commander William Parks encountered serious trouble during a mission over the Red Sea when Yemeni air-defense missiles exploded near the aircraft.

The report says that after coming under a barrage of Yemeni air-defense missiles, Parks was forced into a complex emergency maneuver and was at risk of losing his life.

It was also reported that after losing a significant amount of fuel, Parks requested mid-air refueling over Yemeni airspace.

Earlier, the U.S. Marine Corps Association wrote in a report that Yemeni operations in the Red Sea have provided exceptional lessons in operational innovation and unconventional tactics. Despite lacking advanced naval or air power, Yemeni forces have managed to challenge the U.S. Navy and inflict considerable costs on it.
