US Congresswoman warns Trump: Dangerous rhetoric has consequences.
From the Washington Times, Omar appeared on CBS News and said that the issue of large-scale fraud in the state of Minnesota and the transfer of this money to fundamentalist groups is unacceptable. He was referring to a fraud case in the state of Minnesota.
Emphasizing that “I am certain that the stolen money was not transferred to fundamentalist groups,” he argued: If there was such a connection, as some members of the right wing have stated, prosecutors and courts would have exposed it by now.
The Minnesota Democrat added: “If there was a connection between the stolen money and terrorism, it shows the failure of the FBI and our court system in its inability to detect this.”
Omar emphasized that if this is proven and it is determined that tax dollars were sent to support terrorism abroad, “we want to know and we want to see people prosecuted and we want to make sure that this never happens again.”
The Democratic congressman’s comments come as critics raise doubts about the oversight and warn of widespread attacks on the Somali community in the United States.
The Washington Times notes that nearly 80,000 Somalis live in Minnesota.
Trump aimed at Minnesota Somalis after the fraud case came to light, attacking this segment of American society at a cabinet meeting, saying: “The United States is at a turning point, and if we continue to let trash come into our country, we are going down the wrong path.”
