US Defense Secretary: China’s threat is serious.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett warned that the threat from China is real and could be imminent, and urged US allies in the Indo-Pacific region to allocate more funds to meet their defense needs.
Speaking for the first time at the Shangri-La Security Summit in Singapore to a gathering of defense leaders, military and diplomats from various countries, he stressed that the Indo-Pacific region was a priority for the Trump administration.
According to Reuters, Hegsett added in his harsh comments about China: “There is no reason to cover up. The threat from China is real and could be imminent.”
He noted that any attempt by China to overpower Taiwan would lead to dire consequences for the region and the world.
