US Defense Secretary: Trump open to talks with Iran.
In response to a question from a Fox News host about President Donald Trump’s foreign policy toward Tehran, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett said, without mentioning the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program: “The President (Trump) has made it very clear that Iran cannot obtain a nuclear bomb.”
Regarding the Ukraine issue, Pete Hegsett also claimed: “The only person on earth who has been able to bring the presidents of Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table and establish a lasting peace is Donald Trump! This is true. We are in this process because Trump is unpredictable and powerful. He is outspoken and respected internationally!”
The US Defense Secretary continued: “I think it will be the same with Iran. We have witnessed secret actions for years and years; but now we have a government under President Trump that is telling them (Iran) that you have a chance, let’s negotiate and put aside your (nuclear) program!” Trump says he prefers to talk rather than do anything else. He simultaneously assures that he will do whatever is necessary, in coordination with the relevant institutions or in cooperation with partners, to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
He continued: “We prefer to do this at the negotiating table, in a way that is in the interest of the Iranian people and in the direction of peace! We hope that this is possible, but we also understand the complexities of the situation.
