US Defense Secretary: We are ready for war with China.
According to the Anadolu Agency, US Defense Secretary Pat Hegsett said on Wednesday that the country is ready for war with China in response to China’s threats after US President Donald Trump imposed new tariffs.
This comes at a time when, according to military experts, China is capable of severely threatening the US military fleet in East Asia with Dongfeng missiles, and aircraft carriers in the US are good prey for Chinese missiles.
Hegsett continued by emphasizing the need for military power for deterrence and said, “We are ready.”
The US Defense Secretary added, “We live in a dangerous world with powerful and rising countries with very different mindsets. They are rapidly increasing their military spending and advanced technology.”
Lin Jian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, recently warned that Beijing is “ready for war” in response to US actions, whether in a trade war or a military conflict.
Hegsett stressed the need for deterrence, adding that “if we want to avoid war with the Chinese or anyone else, we have to be strong.”
The National Interest recently wrote in an analysis by Maya Carlin that the Dongfeng-21 missile “is particularly sensitive to maritime threats and can threaten U.S. aircraft carriers more than 1,000 miles offshore. These developments pose a serious challenge to U.S. naval dominance in the Western Pacific.”
Elsewhere in the analysis, China continues to increase its stockpile of carrier-killing ballistic missiles, and the Dongfeng-21 is a key part of that inventory.
