US envoy accuses Iran following Yemeni Ansarullah retaliatory attacks on Israel.
On Wednesday, local time, US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dorothy Shea claimed in the Security Council, without referring to the Israeli regime’s attacks and belligerence in the region, that “the Houthis (Ansar Allah) continue to have a destabilizing presence in the region. In recent days, the Houthis have attacked two merchant ships in the Red Sea, killing and injuring sailors and sinking a cargo ship called Magic Seas.”
The US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations added that the United States condemns these attacks, which impede freedom of navigation.
In recent months, the Yemeni army has increased the intensity of its drone and missile attacks against Zionist targets in the occupied territories in support of the people of the Gaza Strip and in response to the Israeli army’s aggressive attacks on Yemeni soil.
Reiterating the United States’ strong support for Israel, he claimed: “The Houthis have also joined Iran in drone and missile attacks, which have continued until July 5. Israel has the right to defend itself, and we stand with Israel in its right to defend itself against the Houthis.”
The U.S. representative to the Security Council claimed: “The Houthis continue to mistreat their fellow Yemenis and to enslave their country. This includes the unjust detention of a large number of U.N. staff, NGOs, and diplomatic personnel.”
The U.S. deputy ambassador to the United Nations said: “The United States once again calls on the Houthis to immediately and unconditionally release all those detained. The recent Houthi attacks in the Red Sea demonstrate the need for continued vigilance on the part of this Council.”
“We call on Council members to join us and Greece in renewing the call in Security Council resolution 2722 for the Secretary-General to brief the Council on Houthi attacks on commercial and merchant vessels in the Red Sea,” Xi told the council.
The US representative also said: “We call on Security Council members to ensure the functioning of the Yemen Panel of Experts, which is a vital tool in providing the Council with information on violations of the arms embargo under Security Council resolution 2216.”
The US diplomat added to the Security Council members: “Unfortunately, one member of the Council continues to block the appointment of an arms expert to the Yemen Panel of Experts.”
He claimed: “The United States calls for the immediate appointment of this expert. This obstruction reinforces Iran’s defiance of the UN arms embargo.”
The US Deputy Ambassador to the UN, while repeating the allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran, also claimed: “Iran enables the Houthis (Ansarullah Yemen) to attack Israel, threaten and blackmail our partners in the Persian Gulf, and play a role in Iran’s terrorist networks throughout the broader Middle East region. This Council must not tolerate Iran’s violation of its resolutions.”
