US House Speaker Trying to Give Next Nobel Peace Prize to Trump.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Trump supporter, announced Tuesday that he and the speaker of the Israeli Knesset (parliament) are launching a campaign to drum up support from world leaders for Trump’s nomination for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Conservatives in the United States have praised Trump’s efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and say he deserves the annual prize.

“Under his leadership, we are witnessing the dawn of a new golden age, not just for America but for the free world,” the Louisiana Republican told a news conference.

“No one has ever been more deserving of this prize, and that is a fact,” Johnson added.

Trump’s allies have repeatedly pushed for him to receive the prize in the run-up to last week’s Nobel Peace Prize announcement.

The Nobel committee on Friday named Venezuelan politician and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado as this year’s winner. Some media outlets had previously speculated about Donald Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, but the US president ultimately failed to win the award.

On the sidelines of the Sharm el-Sheik summit in Egypt, the US president sarcastically asked the Norwegian Prime Minister, “What happened? What happened?” Trump’s comment appeared to be an indirect reference to the Nobel Peace Prize, which is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, an award that Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive.
