US judge orders return of part of University of California funding.

A US court has ordered the Trump administration to restore some of the federal funding for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) that was recently suspended.

Judge Rita Lin of the San Francisco District Court ruled that the suspension of the funding violated an initial temporary order in June in which the judge ordered the National Science Foundation to restore the university’s expired grants.

That order had prevented the agency from canceling other grants in the University of California system, of which UCLA is a part, according to Reuters.

Judge Lin said the NSF’s actions violated the temporary restraining order.

The White House and university officials have not yet responded to the order.
