US lawmaker: Trump administration is trying to suppress protests by intimidating students

PNN – US Representative Ayanna Sweeney-Presley strongly criticized the arrest of a pro-Palestinian student and accused the administration of President Donald Trump of intimidating students and suppressing protests.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Presley, a Democratic lawmaker from Massachusetts, wrote in a statement on the social network X on Saturday: Homeland Security agents kidnapped Rumisa Ozturk in broad daylight in my congressional district of Somerville and sent her to a detention center in Louisiana. She has not been charged with any crime.

He added: The video of his abduction is heartbreaking. Plainclothes officers wearing masks surrounded him, grabbed his wrists, took his phone and handcuffed him.

Presley continued his statement: He was going to break his fast. I can imagine how hungry and scared he was. He doesn’t have his asthma medication with him, which is a violation of human rights.

The American lawmaker stressed: This is unacceptable and he should be released immediately and his visa should be renewed now.

The Democratic representative stressed: This administration is intimidating students to silence protests because that’s what a dictator does. He has a political protest perspective; a different perspective than Donald Trump and that’s the only reason he was kidnapped.

Presley noted: This is an attack on the very foundations of our democracy. It is illegal, unjust, and authoritarian, and every human conscience should be outraged by it.

US President Donald Trump has accused foreign pro-Palestinian protesters in the United States of supporting Hamas, being anti-Semitic and creating obstacles to US foreign policy, and has called for their deportation.

The US government arrested Rumisa Ozturk, a Turkish doctoral student at Tufts University, on Tuesday while he was on his way to an iftar.

Hundreds of people demonstrated in Massachusetts on Wednesday against the arrest of a Turkish doctoral student at Tufts University who was detained by US immigration authorities after criticizing Israel.

Carrying signs that read: “Free Rumisa” and “We stand with Rumisa,” protesters called for his immediate release.
