US officially lifts sanctions on Syria.
The White House announced that US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order ending more than two decades of sanctions against Syria that had been in place since 2004.
The executive order will take effect tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1.
Trump said in this regard that the Secretaries of State and Treasury took initial steps last month to lift sanctions on Syria.
Claiming that the situation in Syria has changed over the past six months, he said that the country’s new government, headed by Ahmed al-Shara, has taken positive steps and that lifting sanctions is in the interests of US national security and foreign policy.
