US President insults again; Trump calls a reporter an idiot.
The US president told a reporter about the suspect in the shooting of US National Guardsman Sarah Backstrom: “Are you an idiot?”
CBS White House correspondent Nancy Cordes confronted Trump with reports that the suspect in the shooting of Backstrom and Sergeant Andrew Wolfe had been vetted by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security before entering the US from Afghanistan. She asked: “Why is Trump accusing the Biden administration of bringing the suspect into the country without vetting him?”
The reporter said: “Your Justice Department inspector general reported just this year that there were thorough vettings by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI of Afghans who came into the US. So why are you blaming the Biden administration?”
Trump replied: “Because they brought him in. Are you an idiot? Are you an idiot?” Because he flew in with thousands of other people who shouldn’t be here, and you’re just asking questions because you’re an idiot.
The argument came a day after authorities said Rahmanullah Lucknowal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, targeted Backstrom and Wolf in a “targeted” attack just blocks from the White House.
Trump said Thursday after announcing Backstrom’s death that Wolf was still “fighting for his life.” Lucknowal is in custody and is being treated in a hospital after being shot by other National Guard members.
