US Secretary of State makes claims following activation of the snapback mechanism

PNN – The U.S. Secretary of State has repeated claims about Iran’s nuclear program, insisting that Washington still expects to reach an agreement with Tehran.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing TASS, Marco Rubio said the United States maintains this expectation despite its own hostile actions and those of its European allies in triggering the “snapback” mechanism.

Rubio claimed that UN sanctions and other restrictions on Iran were reinstated as of 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

He further asserted: “President Donald Trump has made it clear that diplomacy remains on the table, and reaching an agreement is still the best outcome for the Iranian people and the world. To achieve this, Iran must accept direct talks in good faith, without delay or ambiguity.”

Earlier, under U.S. pressure, the UN Security Council rejected a draft resolution submitted by Russia and China to extend Resolution 2231, which endorsed the nuclear deal with Iran.

Britain, Germany, and France had previously accused Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) and initiated the 30-day snapback process, aligning themselves with Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign—despite the U.S.’s unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018 and European violations of their own commitments.
