US Security Council passes resolution to end Ukraine war.
According to Al Jazeera, the United Nations Security Council adopted a US-proposed resolution on ending the war in Ukraine on Tuesday morning.
The resolution calls for a quick end to the conflict in Ukraine and the establishment of a lasting peace between Kiev and Moscow.
The resolution was approved with 10 votes in favor and 5 abstentions.
No country voted against it in the vote on the proposed resolution.
The resolution is being adopted after the US voted against a resolution proposed by Belgium and Ukraine against Russia.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution prepared by Ukraine and Western countries at the meeting. The US opposed the anti-Russian resolution for the first time.
In a speech before the resolution was approved, the US representative to the UN said: Washington does not support the anti-Russian draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine and calls for its rejection.
He added: The US draft resolution in the UN General Assembly on Ukraine is not a peace agreement, but a path towards peace.
Earlier, Washington had called for its resolution on the conflict in Ukraine to replace the Europe-Ukraine resolution.
