US security scandal: Details of attack on Yemen leaked via Signal messenger

PNN – A veteran American journalist announced that the National Security Council of the Donald Trump administration mistakenly added him to a secret chat group on the Signal messenger and shared information with him about airstrikes on Houthi (Ansarullah) positions in Yemen.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, wrote in a report that he was informed of discussions between senior American officials about attacks on Yemen two hours before the attacks began on March 11.

White House National Security Adviser Michael (Mike) Waltz reportedly initiated the conversation via the encrypted messaging app Signal. The group included the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Adviser, the Secretary of State, the Director of National Intelligence and other senior US government officials.

According to the report, officials present in this group discussed the necessity of carrying out attacks on Yemen and the Trump administration’s justifications for it.

It has also been noted that one official opposed the operation, calling it contrary to the policies of the US President and his approach towards Europe.

US Secretary of Defense and former Fox News anchor Pete Hegsett reportedly leaked details of an operation that could have put American lives at risk. He is now under intense scrutiny and scrutiny for this egregious mistake.

Goldberg told this strange story when he doubted the authenticity of the conversation, but its authenticity was confirmed when “the bombs started falling.”

Goldberg admitted, “I couldn’t believe that the president’s national security adviser would be so reckless as to inform me – the editor of The Atlantic – of matters of this nature that senior American officials, including the vice president, have access to.”

Goldberg, who followed the conversation via the Signal app, wrote: I’m surprised that no one in the group noticed my presence.

The Atlantic editor went on to say that he had voluntarily withheld some of the information in Hegsett’s lengthy letter, saying that its contents “could be used by enemies of the United States to harm American forces and intelligence personnel.”

According to him, in some of the messages exchanged, Vice President Trump and the US Secretary of Defense criticized Europe and emphasized that the United States is the only country that can ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

Following the release of the report, Brian Hughes, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, announced that the agency is investigating how the error occurred.

He stressed that the accidental addition of a journalist to the group had no impact on US national security.

The United States has launched massive airstrikes against Houthi (Ansarullah) positions in Yemeni provinces since March 15.
