In this regard, James Michael Johnson, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, said on Tuesday night, referring to the long government shutdown in the country due to the two parties’ inability to agree on a budget: Democrats have a chance to change their minds and end the government shutdown. Democrats want to legalize illegal immigrants and undo all the reforms made by Republicans.
He added: The Democrats who have delayed the budget bill want to allocate $25 billion of taxpayer money to support international projects. We want to keep the government afloat and consider the budget bill for passage.
Following the ongoing US government shutdown, which has led to financial hardship for many federal employees and the country’s military, some free food distribution centers across the United States have seen a 30% increase in visitors.
The US government was shut down on October 1 due to political differences between Republicans and Democrats in Congress, and has been in a shutdown for about two weeks now. Democrats are demanding guarantees on health insurance subsidies, while Republican lawmakers and the White House have accused opponents of inciting and agitating illegal immigrants.
The failure in the negotiations has led to threats from US President Donald Trump and Republican Party leaders that back pay for about 75,000 federal employees may not be paid.
