US Senator: Foreign children should be deported with their parents.
Republican Senator Marquin Mullen said that children born in the United States to parents who are in the country illegally should be deported with their parents if they are deported.
He spoke to NBC about the recent Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship and Trump’s executive order to repeal the law and deport such people.
Asked what should be done for children born in the United States but whose parents have been deported, assuming they are U.S. citizens and minors, Mullen said: “They should go where their parents went. Why wouldn’t you send a child to their parents? I mean, why should we separate them?”
The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday handed Donald Trump a major victory by limiting the ability of judges to block the president’s policies nationwide in a case involving birthright citizenship.
In a ruling, conservative Justice Amy Barrett did not allow Trump’s order restricting birthright citizenship to go into effect immediately, but instead ordered lower courts that had blocked it to reconsider the scope of their rulings. The ruling also did not address the legal validity of the policy, which is part of Trump’s tough stance on immigrants.
